Bin-picking robot cell for automated raw parts feed

Many talk about it, but very few do it. We’re talking about robot-supported solutions for “bin picking” in automated mass production. This is still a relatively rare phenomenon. That’s mainly because most systems lack processing stability. But we can prove our industrial capability in a practical application: the bin-picking robot cell from our modular program, which is part of a completely automated production line for passenger car and commercial vehicle pistons.

Forged raw parts are provided as bulk material in a metal pallet and are individually fed by a robot to the relevant processing station. The bin-picking cell, which is available with up to three storage spaces for the metal pallets, takes up little space and is very flexible. It has rapid teach-in capacity and can thus adapt to different raw part geometries using 3D CAD data.

Image processing (robot vision) and gripper technologies are perfectly aligned with one another so that the grip is not only fast and reliable, but also precise. Its accuracy when setting down components is also correspondingly high. It can correctly position components on the conveyor belt, on the centering or gripping station or directly in the tool holder of a machine tool. So this bin-picking robot solution does not only optimize the automation of machine tools and machining centers.
